Steve Adamyk: Patrick McEchnie grills Steve Adamyk about life, the universe, and everything he’s ever done. Ever. Steve takes pride in writing punk lyrics that aren’t cliché and regrets naming the band after himself for legal/touring reasons. It ain’t easy for Canadian musicians to cross the border anymore. But who would leave Canada when they have fucking bacon flavored chips? That’s not a rhetorical question. Who?!

Generacion Suicida: Todd Taylor and the immortal Rene Navarro talk spanglish with Generacion Suicida. The first misconception they dismantle is that not every band that has Latinos in it is from East L.A. They are not from East L.A. It’s a great meditation on the expansive and seemingly divisive nature of the Los Angeles community. The rad individuals in Generacion Suicida just want to avoid the punk drama and get out the punk gang wars. It’s sort of like The Warriors but with a better soundtrack and less racial stereotypes. Can you dig it?!

Awesome Fest 7: Kevin Dunn takes a page from Mike Faloon and reflects on what a truly unique and inspiring event Awesome Fest can be. He articulates the oscillations of a three day festival with a perspicacity only found in people who know what perspicacity means. And that’s not snobbish: it’s a fucking pleasure to read. From the travails of filming live music, to waiting for the buses that never come, and juggling drunkenness with survival it’s a clear insight from both an insider and an outsider. Which I think is how Awesome feels. And that’s what makes it perfect. It’s predictable and filled with surprises. And pizza.

Expand Civil Rights to Include Social Class: The erudite Chris Pepus makes a point that is often overlooked in discussions of civil rights. Class is an identity just like race or sex, perhaps less obvious, but integral to the civil rights dialectic. Chris calls for improved civil rights legislation to combat the inequalities that Americans face in their daily lives. “Civil rights laws have proven effective against unequal treatment based on race, sex, religion, and national origin. We must expand those laws to prohibit unequal treatment based on social class.†Boom.

Jello Biafra: The inquisitive Nardwuar starts a verbal thumb war with Jello Biafra. Nardwuar presents Jello with some DOA beer and clears up an apocryphal tale involving criminal activity and pineapple. The two battle with innuendo and talks about Jello’s nonexistent uncool niece. Apparently, Jello has been a bad seed since he was in the first grade. There’s a paper trail to prove it.
