The “CA-108b” is a hand painted / hand drilled / hand built / hand wired 2-in-1 OTA Compressor and Silicon Fuzz pedal made from hand measured NOS components. (I’ll stop saying “hand” now.)

Each circuit comes with batched and paired TO-18 “metal can” transistors, RCA / Intersil chips, military grade carbon composite resistors, poly / film capacitors, pro audio grade bipolar electrolytics, and all spec’d within 5%-10% tolerances.

The compressor side is a fine tuned revision of the 1974 era “Grey Box” / “Script” OTA style compressor. It’s the classic squish, snap, and organic bloom alongside the seemingly infinite sustain that we all love out of the CA3080 chip but now paired with substantial makeup gain. Both NJS 2N2222 transistor stages allows this trio of features to hit the front end of your amp as a light overdrive.

The fuzz side of this powerhouse is a classic take on the classic 2-knob high gain BC108 silicon fuzz. (Yes, I meant to say classic twice.)

Utilizing low value base to collector snubber capacitors, a 2.7V to 9V bias control, and a passive LPF on the output stage for rolling off piercing highs or tightening up the low end while keeping that huge fuzz sound. Utilizing “tech secrets” of the era; this ‘60s “shunt-series” transistor fuzz is the Swiss Army knife you never knew you needed.

Due to the slight component and value changes for each circuit to work it’s best, the fuzz circuit is still highly reactive to your guitar’s volume knob with or without the compressor engaged.

Crank the level, roll the sustain back, turn that bias up, lower the fuzz, and use the LPF to taste. You now have a dual gain stage super sustainer / compressor / overdrive / fuzz monster.
